A business website for Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is a small city made of named neighborhoods, and locals lead with the name. Your site should do the same thing.

Short answer

A Boston site should name neighborhoods before it names the city, be clear about which nearby cities you cross into, and say how you handle old housing. Website Builder Studio writes the pages from a conversation with the in-app assistant. A check that runs before anything publishes refuses a page that is another city with Boston dropped in.

People here say the neighborhood, not the city

Ask someone in Boston where they live and you hear Dorchester, or Southie, or JP. You rarely hear Boston. The neighborhood is the unit that means something.

So write for the neighborhood. Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the North End sit in the old core. Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Roslindale run south. Charlestown and East Boston sit across the water from downtown.

  • Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the North End downtown.
  • Southie, Dorchester and Roxbury to the south and east.
  • Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, West Roxbury and Hyde Park further out.
  • Allston, Brighton and the Fenway on the west side.
  • Charlestown and East Boston across the harbor.

The South End and South Boston are not the same place

This one catches everybody. The South End is a rowhouse neighborhood next to Back Bay. South Boston, or Southie, is a separate peninsula out by the water.

Write the wrong one and a local reader knows at once that you are not from here. Write the right one and you have quietly proved that you are. That is worth more than a paragraph of adjectives.

Brookline, Cambridge and Somerville are next door and not Boston

Brookline sits almost surrounded by Boston and is its own town. Cambridge and Somerville are across the Charles River. Quincy, Newton, Chelsea, Revere and Everett all touch the city too.

Suffolk County covers Boston, Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop, and nothing else. So a county-wide claim here is much smaller than it sounds.

If you cross into Cambridge or Newton, say so. Read how location pages are done right before you build a page for every town around the city.

Triple-deckers, old pipes and narrow streets

A lot of Boston housing is old, and a lot of it is triple-deckers: three flats stacked up with a porch on each floor. Wiring, heat and plumbing in those buildings have their own habits.

Streets are narrow, driveways are rare, and a truck often has nowhere to sit. Say how you get gear in, what access you need, and how long a job takes in a building like that.

Winter decides when a Boston trade is busy

Nor'easters, ice and long cold stretches are the winter here. Ice dams form on old roofs, pipes freeze in unheated walls, and the shovelling never quite ends.

Then freeze and thaw goes to work on everything else. A page that explains what you check before winter, and what you repair after it, is genuinely useful to a homeowner reading in the dark after work.

There is a second Boston rhythm worth planning for. Leases across the city turn over on one notorious day at the end of summer, and the moving vans all arrive at once. If your trade touches move-outs, cleaning or small repairs, say what you do in that week.

What the Census figures say about Boston and Suffolk County

The American Community Survey puts Boston's population at 663,972 and Suffolk County's at 782,172. The gap is small, because the county is little more than the city and three neighbors.

Median household income is $94,755, under the Massachusetts figure of $101,341. Median age is 33.2, which is young, because so many students live here. Per-capita income is $60,001.

County Business Patterns counts 22,034 business establishments in Suffolk County. A lot of them want the same reader, so say what you actually do in plain words.

The form on every page, and its destination

The lead form is on every page and every delivery is signed on the way out. It can land in HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, ActiveCampaign, Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS, email or a webhook.

Students and renters move in waves here, so a booking link helps. Calendly, Cal.com, Acuity and Square Appointments all work, and the book-a-time section loads only when a visitor opens it. Add the Text us link beside your number with one tick.

How your answers become a site

You answer questions about your services, your neighborhoods and the buildings you work on. The site is written from a conversation, and you see the planned pages and the cost before the build runs.

Every page is validated against Google Search Essentials and modern web standards. A page that fails does not publish, and the in-app assistant explains why. Nobody can promise you a position in a Boston search, and this page does not.

Boston in Census numbers

Figures are from the source named beside each one, as published. They describe the area or the trade, not this product.

Questions people ask

Should I say Boston or name the neighborhood?

Name the neighborhood, then the city. Locals speak and search that way, and it tells a reader straight away whether you cover them.

Do I need a separate page for Cambridge?

Only if you work there and can say what working there involves. A Cambridge page that is the Boston page renamed fails the check.

Can the builder handle several locations?

Yes. Each location can be its own site with its own pages and internal links, all on one shared account.
